How can I see how someone voted?
  1. Select "Legislation" then "Bill Search" from the navigation bar above.
  2. Search for bill by number or keyword.
  3. The search results will show you the bill status page. The bill status page displays the bill summary, fiscal notes, amendments, bill history, and votes if there has been a vote.
  4. Click on "Votes" to see every vote taken on that bill, including subcommittee, full committee and floor votes.
  • If a member wishes to be recorded differently than the prevailing vote, this will be noted. In this case, you may see: "Voice Vote, Ayes Prevail. Member(s) noted as voting to the contrary of the voice vote conclusion: Smith."
  • Or: "Voice Vote, Ayes Prevail. Member(s) noted as voting to the contrary of the voice vote conclusion: Smith. Members noted as Present Not Voting: Taylor."
  • If a roll call vote was taken, each committee or subcommittee member's vote is recorded and tallied.
How do I know if a bill has passed and when it goes into effect?

Actions such as Passed House or Passed House as amended; Passed Senate or Passed Senate as amended; and Adopted or Adopted as amended are used to indicate passage of a bill or resolution. The effective date of legislation is stated in the final clause of the bill. The most common effective date clause is "This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it." this indicates the bill will take effect upon signature by the Governor or 10 days after it reached the Governors desk if he takes no action. Other effective date clauses may contain a specific date for taking effect, specifically the start of the new fiscal year 7/1/__ or the start of a new year 1/1/__. When the action for Public Chapter is placed in the bill history an action is also created listing the effective date.

How can I contact my legislator?

Visit the Senate or House Members page. There you will find a phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and office locations. You may also wish to read how to effectively communicate with your legislator. For the hearing impaired using TTY/TDD equipment, please use a free telecommunications relay service. Two such services are AT&T at 800-855-2880 and Purple Text Relay at 800-848-0298.

What is the party composition of the Senate and House?

The 109th General Assembly Senate is composed of 28 Republicans and 5 Democrats. The 109th General Assembly House of Representatives is composed of 73 Republicans and 26 Democrats.

When does session begin and end each year?

Session beings the second Tuesday in January at 12:00 Noon. There is no defined adjournment date. But, the General Assembly usually adjourns in mid April.

When do the House and Senate meet in session, and when do committees meet?

While in session the House and Senate meet in their respective chamber three times a week: Monday evening, Wednesday morning, and Thursday morning. Both House and Senate committees meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week while in session.

The My Bills program allows visitors to create a free account and create a list of bills to watch. Learn more about My Bills.

Reading Adobe PDF Files

PDFs are files that can be viewed on almost all types of computers. This Web site uses PDFs for various reasons, such as to make publications available in the format of the original printed document, or to make large reports easy to download so that they may be read later.
